Ranchi, Jan 27: The procurement of genome sequencing machine has become a challenge for the state government as 7 months have passed but still, the machine has not been established in the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

The state government had decided to purchase two genome sequencing machines in the month of July 2021 which were to be established in RIMS and MGM. The plan for the procurement of the machine has remained in limbo and still remains to be the same.

Health officials at RIMS informed that a meeting was held on Tuesday for the purchase of the machine and the tender has been floated for the same.

“The process for the purchase of a genome sequencing machine has started. The tender has been floated for the purchase of the machine. There was also a meeting held on Tuesday for the purchase. The genetics department will first verify the machine after which the machine will be procured,” an official at RIMS said.

“The process will take around one month and if not a re-tender will be floated for the purchase of the machine,” an official said.

A genome sequencing machine is supposed to help medical experts gauge the genetic strain of the pathogen, particularly identifying the variant of the Sars Cov-2 virus that is afflicting the people at the moment. The machine will also aid in the swift diagnosis of the patients’ ailment.

The Jharkhand High Court on January 7 had also pulled up Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi and the sttgovernment for their failure to install a genome sequencing machine in the state-run hospital. The court in a verbal observation had said that the state-run hospital and the government will only wake up from their slumber when the people of the state reach the cremation ground.
