Two groups clash at Children’s Correctional Home in Ranchi

Many child prisoners injured, several referred to RIMS

Ranchi, Feb 6: Two groups of child prisoners in the Children’s Correctional Home at Doomardaga in the Sadar police station area got into a violent clash on Sunday.

About dozens of child prisoners were injured in the incident, of which one is said to be serious. The injured have been sent to RIMS. Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and tried to stop the fight but were attacked by the prisoners. The SDO, DSP, and station in charge along with their teams reached the spot soon.

Relatives of several child prisoners reached RIMS and created a ruckus, upon being informed of the incident. The families have made many serious allegations against the child correctional home. He said that due to the negligence of the jailer, such incidents have been happening for several days. Children are harassed in jail, pressured for several things. However, no action is taken against this. Many notorious juvenile offenders are lodged in the Children’s Correctional Home. At present, seven child prisoners admitted in RIMS are undergoing treatment. Several child prisoners have suffered serious injuries.

Sources have said, in the past, the children’s correctional home has been in the headlines due to the supply of drugs in the children’s correctional home. The police had recently caught two people throwing intoxicants inside the home. No serious actions have been taken against the culprits.

Recently, many such cases have come to light one after the other in which there have been many other incidents including assaulting new child prisoners, demanding money and liquor from their parents, etc.
