Jharkhand medical colleges to begin 1st MBBS classes from Feb 14

Dhanbad, Feb 12: While the second counselling for 128 vacant MBBS seats is yet to be conducted, all the five medical colleges of the Jharkhand government have geared up to start classes for the 1st MBBS professional of 2021-22 academic sessions from February 14.

A senior officer of the state medical education wing said that since the National Medical Commission (NMC) had announced the starting of 1st MBBS professional from February 14 one month ago, the medical colleges of Jharkhand would kick start the course on the scheduled date.

After the first counselling, 128 MBBS seats out of 450 in the state, including seats of all India quota and central government nominees remained vacant.

Dr Arun Kumar, the Principal of Phulo Jhanu Murmu Medical College, Dumka cum Director State Medical Education today said that as per the direction of NMC, his institution has geared up to start classes of 1st  MBBS professional course from Monday.

“Based on available strength of faculty members, the routine chart of classes has been declared,” said Dr  Kumar.
After the first counselling, 74 students out of 100 seats took admission in Dumka medical college and 26 seats would be filled in the second counselling that is scheduled from February 21.

Principal of  Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu Principal Dr Shailendra Kumar said that besides the letter, the NMC had on February 7 also made it clear in video conferencing to start classes for 1st MBBS professional from the scheduled date  February 14. “So, we prepared to hold classes from Monday,” he said.

Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College  Hospital (MGMMCH) Principal Dr KN Singh and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College, Hazaribagh Principal Dr SK Singh also told that their institutions would start classes from Monday.

A senior officer of the health department said that the students who would take admission after the first counselling would miss the week-long introduction course and other classes due to late admission.

As per official sources, among the 128 vacant seats after first counselling admission, 30 seats are vacant in MGMMCH Jamshedpur, 28 in SBMCH Hazaribagh, 27  in MMCH Palamu, 26 in PJMCH Dumka (all have 100 MBBS seats each) and 17 in SNMMCH Dhanbad which has only 50 MBBS seats.

The official said that until last year, the state used to fill up vacant seats of all India quota in its medical college, but from this session, the seat would remain vacant if no one took admission.
