Ramgarh: Punjab Regimental Centre organises cyclothon under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

Ramgarh, Feb 12: A Cyclothon was organised by the Punjab Regimental Centre to commemorate 75th anniversary celebrations: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on February 12 at Ramgarh Cantonment.

 

The cyclothon was flagged off by retired Naik Gian Chand (9 Punjab), a brave warrior of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

 

The event involved paying homage to martyrs and freedom fighters at the War Memorial of Punjab Regimental Centre, followed by long-distance cycling by 75 participants.

 

The cyclists were divided into two groups. The younger ones included those between 9 -13 years age group and the second lot included persons above 13 years.

 

The younger children covered a distance of 20 km within the garrison, whereas the balance cyclists started their journey from Punjab Regimental Centre, Ramgarh. They passed through Ramgarh Bazaar to reach D.A.V. School Barkakana where the birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati was also being celebrated.

The cyclothon team was given a grand welcome by the school’s Principal Dr Urmila Singh, staff and students. After a brief program, the participants, which had 10 students of D.A.V., started the race again towards Patratu.

 

The event finally culminated at Punjab Regimental Centre after a ride of 75 km. Five officers, 28 soldiers and 42 children participated in the event.

 

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of Indian culture and achievements.

 

The official journey of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commenced on 12th March 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to the 75th anniversary of independence and will end on 15th August 2023.
