Ranchi, Feb. 16: Former Delhi MLA and BJP leader Kapil Mishra was detained by Ranchi police at Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi on Wednesday morning. Kapil Mishra had planned to visit Hazaribagh to meet family members of youngster Rupesh Pandey who was murdered in communal violence during the Saraswathi Puja festival.

“I am at Ranchi airport and I have been detained. Police are not allowing me to come out of the airport. The state government doesn’t want me to meet the family members of Rupesh Pandey. If a person is going to meet a bereaved family he should not be stopped. My purpose is to meet the family of Rupesh Pandey in Hazaribagh. I don’t intend to hold any political programme or rally in Hazaribagh,” Kapil Mishra said to a private news channel.

Kapil Mishra said that the Hemant Soren government has misplaced its priority. He said that instead of detaining him at the airport, the police should catch criminals so that such incidents don’t take place. Kapil Mishra further posted a tweet and informed that he was detained at the airport.

Rupesh Pandey (17) was lynched by a mob during an immersion procession at Kariyadpur village under Barhi police station in Hazaribagh district. The internet service in Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra and Ramgarh districts was suspended for around 48 hours to stop the spread of a rumour.
