New Delhi, Feb 22: Air India’s special flight to Ukraine took off this morning, to bring back Indian nationals stuck in the former Soviet republic, which has found itself amid escalating tensions between Russia and the West.

According to ANI, a Dreamliner B-787 aircraft with a capacity of over 200 seats has been deployed for the special operation. It is expected to arrive in Delhi tonight. In various districts of Ukraine, there are around 20,000 Indian students and nationals.

Air India stated on February 18 that it will run three Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) flights between India and Ukraine this month, a day after the Indian government lifted restrictions on the number of flights to and from Ukraine under the air bubble agreement. These were supposed to take place on February 22, 24, and 26. The flights will fly to and from Ukraine’s major airport, Boryspil International Airport.
