Daltonganj, Feb 26: The humane face of Palamu police was evident in Daltonganj when Laldeo Vishwakarma of Koney village under Latehar district was given one unit of blood by a cop named M Sharik Irshad.
Koney village is a stronghold and hideout of the CPI Maoists in the Latehar district. “A Palamu cop donating blood to an unknown resident of the village Koney is set to send a message to Maoists that the public needs help, not violence,” said a police officer in the Latehar district.
Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said, “Our cop M Sharik Irshad is an A+ blood group. Vishwakarma needed one unit of the blood of this group.”
“A+ group or A – group blood is quite difficult to get but our cop Irshad did a good job and happily donated one unit of blood for Vishwakarma,” he added.
The SP further said, “We hail cops who donate blood for people whom they do not know. It is our way of connecting with the public.”
Cops in Palamu are serving as blood donors in an emergency. SP Sinha is said to be the motivating force behind it.
Sinha had donated one unit of blood for a road accident victim who came from the minority community and this was cheered by both the communities here.
A blood donation camp was also held in the police line Daltonganj where 55 units of blood were collected in one go.
