Dhanbad, March 30: MBBS candidates seem reluctant to take admission in the medical colleges of Jharkhand. 33 MBBS seats out of the total 450 (including all India and state quota) in the government-owned five medical colleges of the state are still vacant after the 2nd round of counselling, which concluded on Tuesday.

However, the Director of Medical Education of the state health department Dr Arun Kumar said that all vacant seats will be filled up in the Mop-Up round for which the process began on Tuesday and will continue till April 3.

The first round of admissions was held from February 4 to 7 and the 2nd round from March 24 to March 29.

As per the official record, after the second round, the highest 10 seats are still vacant in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur and the lowest two seats in the Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu.

MGMMCH Jamshedpur and MMCH Palamu both have 100 MBBS seats each.

MGMMCH principal Dr KN Singh said that a total of 10 seats, including all India quotas are left to be filled up after the second round, while MMCH Palamu principal Dr Shailendra Kumar said only two seats of the state quota are vacant and that will be filled up in the mop-up round.

Six MBBS seats are left unfilled in Phulo Jhanho Medical College Dumka after the 2nd round. Principal Dr Arun Kumar said all 15 seats of all India quota and two seats of the central government have been filled up. Only six seats of the state quota are vacant.

“Though the candidates had come for admission, their certificate was vague,” Dr. Arun said.

Six seats are also vacant at the Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH) Dhanbad. Admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar said that a total of 44 admissions out of 50 MBBS seats have been taken so far.

Among the vacant six seats, five are state quota and one is that of all India. Due to an incorrect certificate, a student was sent back. “I hope all the remaining six seats will be filled up in 3rd round,” he said.

At Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital, Hazaribagh, nine seats are left after the second round. The principal of the college Dr SK Singh said that seven seats of the state quota and two seats of all India quota are still vacant.

College Vacant seats Total seats
MGMMCH Jamshedpur 10 100
SBMCH  Hazaribagh 09 100
PJMCH Dumka 06 100
SNMMCH Dhanbad 06 50
MMCH Palamu 02 100
