New Delhi, March 30: Smoke continues to rise from the Ghazipur landfill in East Delhi where a fire broke out 48 hours ago. The Delhi government had directed the DPCC to impose a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the MCD and to take proper action against the officials.

“Gas and smoke continues to rise from the Ghazipur landfill after a fire broke out 48 hours ago. We have directed DPCC to impose a fine of Rs 50 lakhs on MCD and to take action against on-duty MCD employees and officers at the time of the incident,” said Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai.
“On 4th April, a joint meeting of the Environment Department, PWD, DDA, MCD, NDMC, Fire Dept, Delhi Cantonment Board will be held at the Delhi Secretariat to ensure that similar incidents don’t happen again,” he further informed.
Earlier on Monday, a major fire broke out at a dump site in Ghazipur, east Delhi, covering the town and surrounding suburbs in a tremendous cloud of smoke.
