Two die in rush during Madurai Chithirai Festival in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu- Two people died on Saturday in the rush during entry of Lord Kallazhagar into the Vaigai River as part of Madurai Chithirai Festival 2022.

Over 7 people were also injured in the rush to see the celebrations, which were held after a two-year gap. A middle-aged man and a lady were among the two people who died. Their identities and other facts, however, are unknown. Their bodies are being held at the Madurai General Hospital for identification and autopsy.

The Madurai administration has established a helpline number 9498042434 for anyone to call if they have information regarding killed or missing people.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin expresses deepest condolences to families of victims and immediately orders the CM’s General Relief Fund to provide Rs 5 lakhs each to families of the 2 deceased, Rs 2 lakhs to one seriously injured and Rs 1 lakhs each for 7 people with minor injury.
