CONRAD DIAS

Ranchi, May 18: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Wednesday deployed a team to clean the Swami Vivekananda Sarovar (Ranchi Lake) with the help of an Aquatic Plant Harvester (Cleantec Infra machine).

Notably, the lake has been a point of discussion in recent times with regard to its pollution level.

The officials from RMC have been continuously updating lagatar24.com with their efforts to clean the lake for the past two months. In April, they used a sewage treatment truck to clean a part of the lake that was covered with water hyacinth.

Aquatic Plant Harvester offers an environmentally sound method of controlling excessive aquatic plant growth and nuisance vegetation in waterways of all sizes. These heavy-duty workboats are highly efficient in the management of submerged, emergent and free-floating vegetation.

The lake has been a dumping place for the local residents and that has affected the aquatic life present in the water body. Many complaints have also been made earlier but very few actions were taken.

Khushboo Kataruka, an advocate at Jharkhand High Court had earlier filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in person and requested the Jharkhand High Court to direct the RMC to clean the water and stop the discharge of sewage into the lake and set up a treatment plant.

Algae blooms occurring in lakes disrupt the natural balance and degrade water quality. Additionally, algae that grow rapidly and in excess end up suffocating other aquatic organisms.
