Ranchi, May 31: Even after 24 hours of the murder of land dealer Kamal Bhushan, the Ranchi police so far have not been able to come out with any conclusive statement suggesting the reason and person behind the incident. Sources hinted at it as an outcome of a love marriage against the will of parents.

Sources close to Bhushan supported the observation saying if police had solved the mystery behind the gun attack on Rahul Kujur and Yamini, (Bhushan’s son-in-law and daughter) on February 23 this year at Sadabahar Chowk under Namkum police station area, this incident would have not been taken place.

“Rahul is the son of Bhushan’s partner, Dablu Kujur. Yamini is the daughter of Bhushan. Rahul and Yamini fell in love with each other and wanted to marry. Bhushan was against this relationship. However, going against the will of Bhushan, Rahul solemnized a court marriage with Yamini in Delhi last year. Since then, the relationship between Bhushan and Dablu soured,” a close relative of Bhushan said.

“On February 23, the couple came under gun attack by two bike-borne miscreants at Sadar Bahar Chowk. After the attack, Yamini suspected the hands of her father were behind the attack.  Police did not rely on it and went slow in probing thinking about how come a father planned the killing of his daughter and son-in-law. If the police had probed the case properly, this incident would not have taken place as police would have reached out to the mastermind of the attack had found some alternative way to take matters to a healthy conclusion,” the close relative added, expressing his concern over the incident.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Surendra Kumar Jha and SP (city) Anshuman Kumar could not be contacted for their comments on the matter.

A police official supporting the theory said, “Yamini has been detained for questioning. The primary investigation supports the love marriage theory. The murder appears to be a case of the attack made to defend honour killings as Rahul, his brother Chotu and father Dablu is absconding after the incident. Despite all efforts, police have failed to find their clue. If they had been innocent, they must not have absconded this way. However, it is difficult to give any conclusive statement on the matter.”

A land dealer known to Bhushan supported the angle. “Bhusan had no enmity with anyone. He was famous for dealing in the disputed land. He used to first purchase disputed land at a low cost and then amicably used to resolve the dispute. Then he used to resell the land, keeping a proper profit margin. Those who are in the business of land take his name with respect,” the land dealer said.
