Dhanbad, Mar 28: In wake of the death of a DeNobili School Sindri student in mysterious conditions in a classroom, the guardians of students studying at DAV Public School, Sindri has sought the safety of their wards from Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh.
Guardians in their memorandum to the DC have said that the safety of their children is at stake as anti-social elements in pretexts of social and religious programmes often make unauthorized gatherings in the playground of the school. In the lack of a boundary wall in the school playground, the anti-social elements in the name of being local lads often invade the field at their wish when boys and girls of school are there to play.
“Two days ago, through local newspapers, leaders of a social organization had warned the school management of dire consequences if any attempt is made to construct the boundary wall of the playground. Since a few days ago some anti-social elements had thrown stones in the junior section of the school, smashing windows of class 5th classroom, students are in fear,” said Pullak Kumar Chatterji, one of the guardians.
DAV Sindri principal Ashutosh Kumar admitted that guardians are concerned over the safety of their wards, especially after the DeNobili School incident.
“I have requested Baliapur police station officer-in-charge several times to provide protection for construction of boundary wall but of no avail till date,” he said.
The land belongs to the Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) which gave it to DAV School on lease. As per CBSE guidelines, no school would be given an affiliation without having a playground. DAV School Sindri was set up for the education of FCI Sindri employees’ children.
Notably, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), New Delhi has also written to the Dhanbad DC for taking action regarding the safety of DAV Sindri School students.
Sources said that local lads invite Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders in their functions there and officers of police and district administration fear to stop them from organizing programmes and ensuring the construction of boundary wall.
