Ranchi, May 12: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) on Thursday awarded scholarships worth Rs 20 lakhs to students based on their merit and economic conditions.
The university also organised a foundation laying ceremony on the occasion of a new library on the university premises after several hiccups related to funding by the state government.
Notably, former CM Raghubar Das on his visit to the university had promised funding from the government for a new library and other infrastructure, however, after a while, the then principal secretary Sunil Kumar Burnwal had later rescinded the offer.
Nevertheless, after a long battle between NUSRL and the state government, the Jharkhand High Court had ordered the state to pay for all the remunerations as promised by the former government. Thus, after a couple of years of the announcement regarding the library the university is finally ready to construct a well-funded library.
The High Court had also ordered the state to pay an extra amount for the due amount to be paid to the construction company that had built the university campus.
As per officials, “The funds were released by the state government recently that cleared a debt of around Rs 30-32 crores to the construction company CPWD of the university. This happened due to going over budget and then being approved by the government. Along with this, Rs 25 crores was given for the library and other infrastructure development.”
Along with this, the founding staff members of NUSRL who were working with the university since its foundation in 2010 were also felicitated by the Chief Justice. A total of 20 students of the second, third, fourth and fifth years were awarded scholarships. These include five students in the second year, four in the third, four in the fourth and seven fifth-year students.
The occasion of the foundation laying ceremony, also known as Bhumi Pujan, was performed by Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Justice Ravi Ranjan and his wife Prof. Dr Sunita Roy.
The occasion was also graced by the Advocate General of Government of Jharkhand Rajiv Ranjan; Principal of Chotanagpur Law College Prof. Dr Pankaj Kumar Chaturvedi; Vice-Chancellor Ranchi University Prof Dr Kamini Kumar; and Vice-Chancellor NUSRL, Ranchi Prof. Dr V. Kesava Rao.
