Deoghar, June 17: Protest against Centre’s Agnipath Scheme has started in Deoghar also on Friday. On the major streets of Deoghar, a mass of youths was observed agitating.

The students first assembled outside Deoghar College, after which they marched down Deoghar Jasidih Main Road. They torched a tyre near the Satsung railway crossing and soon marched towards Jasidih. They were seen holding sticks and were heard assaulting PM Modi. They also smashed the iron constructed barricading near Belabagan and the hoardings kept out the stores along the Dhahwa river bridge while advancing towards Jasidih station.

Meanwhile, cops received the information and swung into action. Local police led by SDPO Pawan Kumar and in Incharge of Jasidih PS Vikram Pratap Singh halted students heading towards the Jasidih intersection at Jasidih Chakai More. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. Students, on the other hand, threw stones at the officers.

Deoghar SP himself visited the Jasidih Junction and talked with the station manager Ravi Sekhar and RPF inspector Simran Chaudhary. He took the account of the situation and advised the railway manager to halt the goods train loaded with petroleum products in the safe zone to keep vigil.

Talking to the media, the SP said that the situation was under control and they had prior information. Replying to a question on lathi-charge, he admitted that it was just to disperse the mob and confirmed the detention of one person. The reason behind the late action taken by the police was the engagement of officers in events organized to aware the public regarding cyber crimes.
