New Delhi, June 17: Following violent protests in Palwal against the Agnipath plan, the Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and SMS services in the Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad district for 24 hours as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, the order, which was issued by the Home Department and took effect after 12 a.m. on Friday, resulted in the suspension of mobile internet services, all SMS services, including bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge), and all dongle services provided on mobile networks in order to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of rumours.
Meanwhile, authorities in Gurugram prohibited a gathering of more than four individuals to prevent protests against the Agnipath scheme for the short-term recruitment of soldiers in the armed forces. As violent protests against the project continued for the second day in different parts of the country on Friday, district magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav issued orders in this regard.
In his ruling, Yadav predicted that the new scheme will be met with opposition in Haryana, especially Gurugram. According to Yadav, masses are likely to congregate in Gurugram at railway stations, bus stops, markets, national highways, and other locations, disrupting law and order.
