Chennai: The AIADMK is exploring possible alliance talks with Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after exit polls projected a strong debut for the party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, indicating a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
Exit Polls Show Tight Race
According to projections, TVK is expected to win between 98 and 120 seats in the 234-member Assembly, putting it in close competition with the DMK-led alliance, which is projected to secure 92 to 110 seats. The NDA alliance is estimated to win 22 to 32 seats.
Vote Share and Leadership Edge
The survey suggests TVK could secure around 35 percent vote share, matching the ruling bloc, while the AIADMK-led alliance may remain at around 23 percent. Vijay has also emerged as the most preferred Chief Minister candidate with 37 percent support, slightly ahead of MK Stalin at 35 percent.
Strong Youth and Social Support
TVK has reportedly gained significant backing among young voters, including 68 percent support from first-time voters aged 18–19, 59 percent from the 20–29 group and 45 percent among those aged 30–39. The party has also drawn support from students, unemployed youth, urban voters, and sections of OBC, SC and minority communities.
Alliance Depends on Final Results
Sources indicate that AIADMK’s decision to initiate formal talks with TVK will depend on the final election results, which will determine Vijay’s role and influence in the state’s future political equations.
