New Delhi: Civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu has clarified that the black box from the June 12 Air India crash in Ahmedabad has not been sent abroad for analysis. It is currently with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is conducting the technical investigation. Naidu dismissed reports suggesting otherwise, calling them “all speculation.”
Black box holds key evidence, still under analysis in India
Speaking at the Helicopters & Small Aircraft Summit 2025, jointly hosted by FICCI and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the minister said, “The black box is very much in India. The AAIB is going through the correct procedures to decode it.” He added that a timeline for data retrieval cannot be confirmed as it is a technical process.
Crash investigation ongoing, government urges patience
The black box was recovered on June 13, a day after the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The flight collided with a hostel complex, killing 241 people and leaving only one survivor. A high-level panel is already in place to investigate the tragedy, with Naidu reiterating that decoding the black box will be central to determining the cause.
