Mumbai, June 8: The 232 passengers on board the Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco, which had to make an emergency landing in the far-flung Russian town of Magadan due to an engine malfunction, departed for their destination on Thursday, according to an official.
Due to an engine issue, flight AI173 from Delhi was diverted to Magadan in Russia on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Tata Group-owned private airline.
With 216 passengers and 16 crew members on board, the Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft made a safe landing.
A senior Air India official announced on Thursday that flight AI173D from Magadan, Russia (GDX) to San Francisco (SFO) is currently airborne and carrying all passengers and staff.
According to him, the flight departed GDX at 1027 Hours (local time) on June 8 and is scheduled to arrive at SFO at 0015 Hours (local time) on June 8.
In order to complete the arrival clearance procedures for all passengers, Air India has mobilised additional on-ground assistance at SFO.
The staff at SFO are prepared to offer the travellers any support they may require, including but not limited to medical attention, ground transportation and in appropriate circumstances, onward connections.
