New Delhi, June 8: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued orders prohibiting the use of coal in industrial, household, and other miscellaneous purposes throughout the Delhi-NCR region from January 1, 2023.

The use of low-sulphur coal in thermal power plants, on the other hand, is exempt from the restriction.

The restriction on the use of coal will take effect on October 1 in places with PNG infrastructure and supply, and on January 1, 2023 in areas where PNG supply is still unavailable, according to a CAQM ruling published on June 3.

“In full effect, the use of coal as fuel shall be banned across NCR with effect from January 1, 2023,” the panel said.
