Dhanbad Aug 7: After the completion of the first round of counselling, only 12 students out of 75 seats reserved under the all India quota took admission in the medical colleges of Jharkhand in the 2023 session.
In the first round of counselling which concluded on August 4, four each students took admission at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribag.
Two each students took admission at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, and Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka.
But at Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu, not a single student took admission under the all India quota.
Jharkhand state government-owned five medical colleges have 500 MBBS seats (100 seats each) in which 15% seats (15 seats) are reserved under the all India quota in each institution.
Two seats in each institution are reserved for the central government nominees and the remaining 83 seats for the state quota.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) had sent the list of all India quota (15 seats each) to all the five medical colleges of the state for admission but 62 of them selected free exit.
Free exit means if a candidate is allotted a seat in the first round and he does not take admission he would not be penalized and will be eligible for subsequent rounds.
Dr SK Singh, principal of SBMCH Hazaribag cum director, state medical education wing, said that he received the names of all 15 candidates under the India quota but only four of them turned up. Eleven seats of the college remained vacant.
“Now, we have prepared for the first round of counselling ( August 6 to 8) for the state quota candidates,” he said.
SNMMCH Dhanbad admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar said four students out of 15 were enrolled in the first round counselling. “ Eleven seats are vacant and it would be filled up in the second counselling,” he said.
DR KN Singh, principal MGMMCH Jamshedpur informed that only two students turned up for admission under the all India quota.
Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary, principal of PJMCH Dumka, said that only two students out of 15 reserved seats took admission. “ All the seats are expected to be filled up in the next rounds.
At MGMMCH Jamshedpur too only two students out of 15 took admission after the first counselling.
However at MMCH Palamu not a single candidate under the central quota (15) took admission during the first round of counselling.
Admission in-charge of the college Dr Atul Prakash said that names of all the 15 selected candidates came but no student turned up for admission. “ Now, we are waiting for the second round of counselling,” he said.
