New Delhi, March 27: The annual Amaranth Yatra will begin on June 30 this year, with full respect to Covid-19 standards, according to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Amaranth Yatra to start from June 30th, 2022, with all covid protocols in place & culminate, as per the tradition, on the day of Raksha Bandhan. The Amarnath Yatra will last for 43 days this year,” said a statement released by office of Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
This year’s yatra to the Himalayan cave shrine in south Kashmir, which is located at a height of 3,880 metres, will last 43 days and end on Raksha Bandhan, as is customary.
The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, chaired by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, made the decision to arrange the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine.
The Amarnath yatra was cancelled in the middle of 2019 before Article 370 was repealed in August of same year. A symbolic yatra has been observed for the past two years due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, officials in Jammu and Kashmir reported 15 new Covid cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 4,53,652. There have been no fresh fatalities, bringing the total death toll to 4,750. Notably, no new Covid infections were reported in 15 of J&K’s 22 districts. There are presently 138 active cases in the Union Territory.
