Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent visit to Assam. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sarma claimed that during a closed-door meeting with the Congress’s Political Affairs Committee, Rahul Gandhi allegedly said, “Write it down, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail.”
Sarma’s Counterattack on Rahul Gandhi
“These words were spoken by the Leader of the Opposition,” Sarma asserted. “He (Rahul Gandhi) has come to Assam merely to say this. He seems to have forgotten that he himself is out on bail in several criminal cases filed across the country,” the Assam CM added in his post. Sarma further remarked, “Rahul ji, my best wishes to you. Enjoy the rest of your stay and Assam’s hospitality.”
Congress Leaders in Assam
It’s noteworthy that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Guwahati, Assam, on Wednesday. They received a grand welcome from Congress workers at the Guwahati airport. Both leaders attended a series of meetings, including discussions with the Political Affairs Committee, PCC office bearers, MPs, MLAs, frontal organization heads, and DCC presidents.
