Jamshedpur, May 5: A 35-year-old man identified as Manoj Rai was found lying dead in an auto-rickshaw under Ulidih thana area in Mango early morning on Friday.

A resident of Parasnagar in Ulidih, Manoj was an auto-rickshaw driver and was found dead inside his vehicle near Jahersthan at Rajendranagar in Ulidih, leading the police to shift the body to MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem.

Significantly, while the police are yet to know the cause of the death, the family members claim it to be a case of murder and have brought back the body from the medical college mortuary in Dimna to the MGM medical college hospital at Sakchi.

The bereaved family members maintained that Manoj was beaten to death by unidentified assailants and unless the police do not detect the assailants and arrest them they would not allow the police to conduct a postmortem of the body.

According to the bereaved family members Manoj was the only earning member in the family and had gone to operate the auto-rickshaw on Thursday evening, but did not return home.

As the auto-rickshaw driver did not return home in the night, the anxious family members rang the deceased’s cell phone.  After a few calls were made on the cell phone, a lady received the call and informed that the owner of the cell phone had left it at a liquor shop.

But before the family members could reach the liquor shop, the police recovered Manoj’s body near Jahersthan.

Manoj’s cousin brother Vikash Yadav claimed to have found out that a group of unidentified youth had thrashed his brother to death.

“It is a murder case and the police will have to find out the assailants before going ahead for the postmortem,” said Vikash Yadav while talking to lagatar24.com.

OC, Ulidih Thana, Sonu Kumar said that it is yet to be ascertained whether it is a murder case or not.

“The family members have not given in writing about their claim. Moreover, as there is no eyewitness of the alleged murder of the person, we can establish the cause of death only after carrying out a postmortem. Once it is established that it is a murder case we will try to detect the assailants. But the family members concerned are insisting on detecting the assailants first, ” pointed out the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.
