Dhanbad, Oct 21: In a bizarre case, a former coal man of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has been given a promotion after three years of his death.
BCCL headquarters has issued a letter of promotion for 66 coalmen of the collieries in which the name of the late Abhiraj Singh, who died three years ago (2019), was also enlisted. He has been promoted to the post of technical ‘A One’ category from the technical ‘A’ post.
The promotion list was issued on October 19 and the BCCL headquarters directed the promoted staff to deposit their relevant papers by October 21.
Abhiraj Singh worked in the Rajapur Coal Project of BCCL as an attendance clerk and died in the post. Since he died while working, his son Abhishek Singh was given the job on the compensation ground in the Ena colliery of BCCL.
Rajapur Coal Project officers and staff were surprised to see the name of a deceased employee in the promotion list released by the headquarters Koyla Bhawan. The sources in the colliery said that not only a deceased employee but also the name of a retired employee SN Tiwary is on the list.
SN Tiwary, deployed at Kuiya Kanta Ghar (weighing bridge) retired three months ago but the company has given him a promotion.
When contacted a senior officer deployed at BCCL headquarters Koyla Bhawan, he said that due to a technical flitch such a mistake might have been done. But a probe would be conducted into how such a major lapse took place.
