Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have identified the prime suspect in the horrifying case where pieces of a woman’s body were found in a fridge in her home. City Police Commissioner B Dayanand confirmed that efforts are underway to arrest the suspect, who has been described as an outsider. “It is being investigated from all angles,” he told the media, adding, “We can’t provide more information at this stage as it may aid the accused.”

The victim, Mahalakshmi, lived alone in her single-bedroom house in Bengaluru, and her dismembered body was discovered on Saturday. Police suspect that she was murdered at least two weeks ago, as the body parts had decomposed and were infested with worms by the time they were found.

Clues Point to Suspect From West Bengal

State Home Minister G Parameshwara also commented on the case, stating that police have gathered significant information and clues. “One individual has been identified,” he said, hinting that the suspect is believed to be from West Bengal. However, more information is required before authorities can fully disclose the suspect’s identity.

The investigation has taken a multi-faceted approach, with law enforcement officers exploring every possible angle.

Political Row Over Women’s Safety

The gruesome murder has sparked a political debate, with the Opposition BJP criticizing the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government over its handling of law and order and women’s safety in Karnataka.

The BJP Karnataka took to social media, targeting the government: “Under @INCKarnataka rule, appeasement policies have led to a complete collapse of law and order. The brutal murder of Mahalakshmi by Ashraf is a clear reminder that Kannadigas are no longer safe in this Hitler-led @siddaramaiah government.”

Government’s Response to Women’s Safety Concerns

In response to questions about the state government’s steps to improve women’s safety, Minister Parameshwara emphasized that numerous precautionary measures have already been implemented and that the government remains vigilant. “We are very mindful about it,” he assured.

As police continue their investigation and the suspect remains at large, the case has become a focal point for political criticism and concerns over women’s safety in Bengaluru and Karnataka.
