New Delhi, March 28: The Kerala High Court on Monday ordered the state administration to issue an injunction prohibiting public employees from taking part in the two-day countrywide strike. The court also stated that participation in the bandh by state government employees is prohibited.
Bharat Bandh supporters set up rail and road blockades across West Bengal on Monday to impose the two-day statewide strike. To protest the Centre’s policies, left-wing activists were seen obstructing railway tracks in Jadavpur, Dum Dum, Barasat, Shyamnagar, Belgharia, Joynagar, Domjur, and other locations. The police eventually lifted the blockades, allowing rail service to resume.
Today (March 28) and tomorrow (March 29), a combined forum of central trade unions, chaired by the All India Bank Employees Association, has called for a statewide strike to protest the Central government’s policies impacting employees, farmers, and the general public. The decision comes after trade unions stated they would protest the Centre’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people, and anti-national policies” at a meeting on March 22. The bank unions are protesting the government’s plan to privatise public sector banks and the Banking Laws Amendment Bill 2021.
