Patna, Jan 24: The son and brother of a Bihar minister were beaten up on Sunday in West Champaran district after they allegedly opened fire on a group of locals over a dispute.
Bablu Kumar was attacked at Haradiya Koeri Tola hamlet in the Mofussil police station area, where his father, Narayan Prasad, is a BJP official and the state minister for tourism. A gang of locals assaulted the minister’s son and grabbed a rifle he was carrying, according to footage broadcast on news networks.
Kumar was accompanied by his uncle Harendra Prasad, manager Vijay Sah, and other accomplices, according to Superintendent of Police Upendra Verma, all of whom were injured in the incident.
They stated they went to the location after learning of a “encroachment” on an orchard, where they were beaten and robbed of their licenced gun, as well as having their vehicles vandalised.
The locals, on the other hand, claimed that the minister’s family members were offended by some children playing cricket there, and that the situation escalated when Kumar fired a shot into the air.
The minister’s son, who is being treated in a hospital with other injured people, claims that no shots were fired.
According to the SP, a large police presence has been deployed in the area to maintain order, and additional investigation is continuing.
