Patna, Sept 18: An attack on seven police officers including two station house officers (SHOs), by a mob of locals in the Katihar district is being looked into by the Bihar Police, a top officer said on Sunday.
Following the purported murder of a man in detention on Saturday, a mob of villagers attacked the Pranpur Police Station, inflicting injuries on the police officers.
When 40-year-old Pramod Kumar Singh was discovered dead, the neighbourhood went on the rampage, damaging cars parked nearby. He was taken into custody on Friday for having alcohol bottles in the dry state of Bihar.
Manitosh Kumar of Pranpur Police Station and Shailesh Kumar of Dandkohra Police Station have been named as the two injured SHOs, according to the senior officer.
“All the injured policemen have been admitted to the district hospital in Katihar and their condition is stated to be stable. The situation is completely under control and our teams are camping in the area,” Acting Superintendent of Police Daya Shankar said on Saturday.
