Ranchi, Jan 9: As per a report on Sunday afternoon, 18 more doctors of NMCH in Patna were found Covid positive. Within the last one week, more than 350 doctors of Bihar have been found infected with the virus. Nine patients were admitted to NMCH in the morning which includes three people under the age of 25. It has been observed that children and youth are at a greater risk in the third wave.
Experts say that this time the peak of the third wave might be in the first week of February. The administration claims that adequate arrangements were made in the hospitals including beds and oxygen cylinders.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department Pratyaya Amrit said, ‘Bihar has reached the list of top five states of the country in terms of positivity rate. The R factor in the country is four, while in Bihar it is two, which is, one person is infecting more than two people. The R factor in the country at the time of the second wave peak was 1.69. Right now the situation in Patna is worse, where the infection rate has crossed 20 percent.’
The number of new cases of Covid on Saturday has broken the record of the past seven and a half months in the state as 4,526 new cases were registered on Saturday. Earlier on May 21, 2021, 5,154 new cases were registered. With the new infection, the number of active patients in the state has reached 12,311 at present. Meanwhile, along with a 21-year-old youth, two infected patients have also passed away in Patna AIIMS.
There are 39 corona patients admitted in AIIMS Patna. Of these, two are on ventilators, the rest have mild symptoms. Health Minister Mangal Pandey reviewed Covid-19 cases on Saturday, during which it was discovered that excluding children, 50 percent of these patients are those who have not taken any doses of the vaccine.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, executive director of the State Health Committee, said, ‘Those who have been vaccinated are also getting infected with corona, but the effect among them is very less.’
Meanwhile, the restrictions imposed by the government will be strictly implemented on Sunday for the prevention of the pandemic in the state. For this a special campaign will be launched in all the districts. Chief Secretary Amir Subhani issued instructions in this regard on Saturday.
The number of corona infected patients is increasing continuously in Patna. On Saturday, 1,956 new corona patients were registered in different areas of Patna. This is 43 percent of the total new cases in Bihar. However, it is a matter of relief that most of these have been recommended home isolation. 41 doctors of four hospitals in Patna have been infected. Here six patients were discharged from the hospital, while 16 new patients were admitted. Among those found positive on Saturday include 14 scientists and 10 personnel of Rajendra Memorial Research Institute (RMRI), 20 heart patients who came to the OPD along with nurses from Indira Gandhi Cardiological Institute.
Eight corona positive patients, including a passenger from Qatar, were found at Patna airport. His antigen test was found positive. The passengers who came to Patna from Qatar are residents of Darbhanga. Among those who tested positive was one each from Go Air, Indigo and airport staff, besides a passenger from Bengaluru. A resident of Anisabad and one of Sheikhpura were also found positive. All of them had fever, cold and cough. Their samples have been taken for an RT-PCR test.
State Health Committee executive director Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the report of 24 samples of genome sequencing will be ready on January 10. Testing has been done in the IGIMS lab. Earlier, the samples were being sent out to NCDC Delhi. Out of 493 samples, one report was found positive. After these 24 samples, another lot of 96 samples will be sent. Genome sequencing will reveal how many patients in Bihar are suffering from the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
As per the data by the Health Department, a total of 5,154 new cases were reported on May 21, 2021. Whereas, on May 22, this figure came down to 4,375 while on May 23 the pace of infection decreased further to 4,002 cases of new infections in a day. In the third wave of corona, however, the graph of infection is increasing rapidly. On January 8, within 24 hours, the number of infections had reached 4,526.
