Patna, Oct 14: Anil Kumar Sahni, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, was disqualified from the Bihar assembly on Friday after being recently found guilty of fraud by a CBI court in Delhi.
In a statement released by Pawan Kumar Pandey, secretary of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, Sahni was declared ineligible “with effect from the date of conviction and sentencing.”
On August 29, Sahni, who held the Kurhani assembly seat, was found guilty and given a three-year prison sentence two days later. He was found guilty by the Rouse Avenue court of trying to use fraudulent Air India e-tickets to obtain travel benefits in 2012 without actually making the trips.
Sahni has submitted claims totaling Rs 23.71 lakh while still a member of the Rajya Sabha and affiliated with the JD(U) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
In recent months, he has become the second RJD MLA to be expelled from the legislature. Currently, the party has 78 effective members, just one more than the BJP.
Anant Kumar Singh, a Mokama MLA, was disqualified in July after being found guilty by a Patna court in a case involving the seizure of weapons and explosives from his home.
