Jamshedpur, Oct 14: There has been a spurt in thefts and burglaries in the steel city, causing the residents to pass sleepless nights in apprehension.
Though such incidents of thefts and burglaries are common prior to Diwali, the police are doing little to stop the menace.
The thieves have decamped with cash and a mobile phone worth over Rs 80,000 from a house at Road No. 4 in Bagbera colony during the intervening night of Oct 13-14. The victim could know about the theft this morning only.
According to an FIR lodged by the victim Rakesh Kumar, the thieves picked up the cash and valuables by entering into the house through a window.
In another incident, criminals decamped with fans and furniture from a school at Barish Colony under the Azadnagar thana area in Mango. The burglars had entered the school’s office and classroom by breaking open the locks. The school authority today lodged an FIR with the Azadnagar thana urging the police to detect the case soon.
The thieves have stolen away copper cables from an air conditioner from a residential quarter on L road in Bistupur last night.
Though the thieves have stolen AC cables from more than one houses during the past two days no one did feel the need to lodge a complaint with the police.
Significantly, thieves had decamped with cash and jewelry worth over Rs 2.1 crores from a house at Rajendra Nagar under Sakchi thana area on Saturday when there was no one at the house. The house owner, Ajay Modi who is a businessman was out of station with family when the burglary took place.
What makes the recurrence of theft and burglary concerning is that such incidents are taking place despite the patrolling vehicles can be seen in the localities with the police beacon lights on, giving the residents a sense of security.
Senior SP Prabhat Kumar said they would look into the complaints about thefts and burglaries in the city and try to intensify the policing.
“No matter whether it being Diwali period or not; the incidents of theft and burglary have to be curbed. We will take necessary steps to stop this all soon,” said the SSP while talking to lagatar24.com.
