BIT Sindri, IIT ISM TEXMIN sign MoU for innovation in mining sector

Dhanbad, Mar 1: BIT Sindri and TEXMIN Foundation IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad have signed an MoU for the training of students and innovation of new techniques in the mining sector.

In this regard, BIT director Prof DK Singh and IIT ISM deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar signed the MoU in presence of senior faculty members of both the institutions. The MoU was signed at BIT Sindri on Tuesday evening.

BIT director Prof Singh and IIT ISM deputy director Prof Kumar said that purpose of this MoU is to articulate a bilateral relationship to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and technology in the mining sector. 

“TEXMIN and BIT have a common objective and possibility to work together in this field that would mutually benefit the students/interns, incubated projects and faculty,” they said.

The official of both the institutions said the MoU has been signed for one year and shall be renewed on mutually acceptable terms and conditions.

As per the MoU, TEXMIN would identify problems in the mining sector where its expertise and its incubated start-up could be utilised for addressing the challenges. It would provide opportunities for technology demonstration and access to domain experts from the mining sector to help start–up. TEXMIN will also co-create innovation in partnership with BIT.

As per the agreement, TEXMIN will also provide technology training, capacity building and skills development for mining leadership for undergraduate and research students and others for  BIT.

On the other hand, BIT Sindri as per MoU will identify and recommend students from its portfolio to offer in respect of the problem defined by TEXMIN. It will also provide the necessary infrastructure such as laboratory space, and resources required for the incubation of the start-up. The institute will also support the promotion of the incubated companies and their products.

BIT Sindri will mentor and handhold support to start-ups for undertaking pilot projects and technology demonstrations. As per the MoU, both the institutions would jointly promote the collaboration and its outcome through their respective networks.

Both Prof DK Singh and Dr Dheeraj Kumar expressed hope that the tie-up would bring a new revolution in the innovation of new technology and development in the mining sector.
