Dhanbad Oct 6: Looking at the shortfall of faculty members, Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) Sindri has decided to enroll part-time lecturers on an honorarium of Rs. 500 per hour for 2021-22 academic session. As per the official records, the institution currently has around 150 teachers against the total sanctioned posts of 256.

BIT Sindri’s Director, Prof. DK Singh has in this regard invited interested candidates for interview for three subjects; Metallurgical engineering, Mathematics and Geology department at 10.30 am on October 9.

As per the notice of the Director, part-time lecturers are being appointed for graduation courses of 2021-22 academic sessions. Each part-time teacher would be paid Rs 500 per lecture (per hour) only. A lecturer would get a maximum of 60 lecture opportunities in one month.

The qualifications required for the appointment are:

First division in post graduation from any AICTE, New Delhi recognized institution, college or university for the candidates in engineering faculties.

Applicants in mathematics should have minimum 55 % marks along with NET qualification.

BIT Sindri is the only government-owned engineering college in the state. Since the management has applied for autonomous status for the institution and an inspection followed by a high-level expert team of the state government, all the vacant faculty posts are being filled up through part-time lecturers for the time being.

The Teacher’s body has opposed the move of the BIT management to appoint temporary teachers on the basis of Rs 500 per hour lecture. “Such appointments would lower the standard of education and morale of the faculty members,” a senior teacher said.

Meanwhile, the teachers and non-teaching employees of BIT have reiterated that they would continue protesting against the autonomous move of the management. They have urged the state government to hold on this move as the poor tribal students would be deprived of getting higher technical education as the course fee would be increased after the institution attains the autonomous status.
