Dhanbad, Aug 29: The six-member team of BIT Sindri bagged the first prize in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) innovation competition held at Parul University, Vadodara (Gujarat) from August 25-26.

The team including Adarsh Trivedi, Ankita Ghosh, Prem Kumar, Ritik Raj Pandey, Sumit Kumar and Tanmay Agrawal was declared the winner in creating a web application for solving the problem faced by the students.

The achievement of the BIT Sindri team keeps significance as all the six members of the squad were 1st year students while their counterparts from other engineering colleges were in the 3rd year.

“They have attended classes for merely three months and appeared in the first semester,” said Prof Ghanshyam Kumar Singh, the chairman of the career development centre (CDC) of  BIT Sindri.

Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to solve and inculcate a culture of product innovation and a problem-solving mindset. Parul University was one of the 75 nodal centres in the country under Smart India Hackathon 2022 among engineering institutions for innovation in solving pressing problems students face in their daily lives.

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, had given six problems to the participant teams of engineering colleges to solve and innovate the application. BIT Sindri team created a web application for easing the selection process of needy students to impart education for competitive exams through coaching institutes and also addressing delays in the funding process.

BIT Sindri director DK Singh congratulated the team members for their achievement in the national competition. “You have done something stunning and made the entire institute proud. Working hard together as a team with one vision truly wins in the end. Your hard work has truly paid off. A team’s success mainly depends on the perseverance of each member. We are so proud of all of you,“ the director said.

CDC chairman Prof Ghanshyam Kumar Singh while giving credit to team members for the achievement said that it showed their hidden extraordinary talent and vision hit the target in the first year.

“One can innovate web only after having core subject knowledge and application. Their display was spontaneous,” he said.
