Daltonganj, July 13: Unidentified criminals fired two shots at the running car of a BJP leader Suryanshu who had a miraculous escape in Palamu.
The sub-divisional police officer of Chhatarpur Ajay Kumar giving this information today said the two shots fired damaged the windscreen and landed in the back seat of the car thus Suryanshu had a providential escape as he was not only alone in his car but at the steering too.
The incident which took place under the Hariharganj police station on the night of Tuesday has been registered as the FIR with the same police station, said the SDPO Ajay Kumar. The survivor has lodged a case against the unknown criminals.
However, the SDPO said the survivor has a lurking suspicion that as he stands as a witness in a murder case this futile bid on his life could be linked to it.
SDPO Kumar said police are investigating this angle too.
Notably, the BJP leader was returning to Hariharganj on Tuesday night in his car after dropping his friends at Vanshakti Kataiyya when from the opposite direction two persons on a bike came near and one of them opened fire, two shots in all, and then disappeared.
One rider had a helmet on his head while the other had his face covered with gamcha.
Sources said the two who attempted to kill the BJP leader could be local shooters also and not from across the border of Bihar as Hariharganj police station in Palamu is right on the border of Bihar.
