Ranchi, Aug 25: BJP leaders increased their attack on Chief Minister Hemant Soren even as Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais is yet to announce the decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Soren’s case that may disqualify him.
“Let’s wait for the Governor’s announcement. Hemant Soren should be disqualified and also debarred from contesting elections as it’s a matter of corruption. His government is in trouble due to his own misdeeds,” former Chief Minister Raghubar Das said.
The ECI has sent its report to the Jharkhand Governor on the office of profit case related to Soren securing a stone mining lease in his name during his tenure as Chief Minister and Mines Minister. Bais, who just returned from Delhi, is set to announce the verdict.
Independent MLA and former BJP leader Saryu Rai said, “Hemant Soren has been found guilty of corrupt practices. He may be disqualified from contesting elections for the next three years. However, he may go to the High Court or Supreme Court before or after leaving the post of Chief Minister.”
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said, “Hemant Soren should call for mid-term polls on moral grounds. The assembly should be dissolved.”
Meanwhile, tensed JMM leaders and MLAs have gathered at the Chief Minister’s house.
JMM MLA Mithilesh Thakur said, “We have full faith in the people of Jharkhand. The public is watching everything. When the time comes, people who do immoral and unconstitutional acts will be hit by a hammer and it will be so strong that they will not be able to recover from its blow for the next 20 years.”
