New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on course for a resounding win in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, leading in over 160 constituencies as counting progressed. By 10:15 am, the NDA was ahead in 162 seats, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan—a coalition of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress—trailed with 77 leads.

Amit Shah’s Prediction Comes True

The results validated Home Minister Amit Shah’s confident forecast at the NDTV Bihar Power Play Summit, where he said, “The NDA will win 160 seats and form the government with a two-thirds majority.” Dismissing rumours of internal discord among the alliance partners, Shah had described the coalition as the “five Pandavas” of Bihar politics—referring to BJP, JDU, LJP, HAM, and RLM—standing united without disputes.

Exit Polls Accurately Predicted NDA’s Lead

All 13 exit polls analysed by NDTV had projected a clear NDA victory, though a few anticipated a close contest with the Mahagathbandhan. The actual counting trends confirmed those predictions, with the NDA gaining a strong and early lead that continued to expand as votes were tallied.

Nitish Kumar’s Political Resurgence

A major subplot of this election is the comeback of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Once reduced to “junior partner” status after his party JDU secured just 43 seats in 2020 compared to the BJP’s 74, Kumar now appears to have restored balance within the alliance. The JDU is on track to secure around 74 seats, signaling a revival of its influence.

RJD Set To Lose ‘Single-Largest Party’ Status

The Rashtriya Janata Dal, which led the Mahagathbandhan with 75 seats in 2020, is expected to fall far behind this time. Its decline marks a significant political shift in Bihar’s electoral landscape as the NDA consolidates power.
