SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Jan 8: Bodies of two primitive Birhor tribe youths were found in a well in Orbatand village under Sariya police station of Giridih district on Saturday afternoon.

The youths were identified as Damaru Birhor (30) and Ajay Birhor (28), residents of Birhortanda village of Sariya block.

Sariya police station officer-in-charge Prem Tiger told media persons that both had been missing from their village since Thursday. Today, the villagers found their clothes and shoes lying near a well in a deserted place in the afternoon and duly informed the police.

When the Sariya police searched the well, they found both bodies drowned inside.

“It looks mysterious how they fell in well after taking off their clothes from the bodies. Bodies have been sent for post-mortem to Sadar hospital,” said a police officer.

Family members of the deceased told the police officer that both had gone to Sariya block headquarter for daily wage work three days ago and did not return. Villagers searched for both the youths in the evening of Thursday and all day on Friday but did not find them.

Villagers have expressed apprehension that consumption of excessive liquor might have led them to death.

However, the police officer said that since these are the cases of the primitive Birhor tribe, an investigation is being conducted properly before jumping to any conclusion.
