Jamshedpur, Sept 12: Bokaro Steel City railway station has a significant contribution to the freight movement as well as passenger transportation sectors of Indian Railways as it serves one of the major industrial areas of the country.
In the latest move, the station has been selected under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ by the Indian Railways and will be redeveloped as a world-class station.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is set to transform and revitalize 1309 railway stations across the nation. Altogether 69 stations of South Eastern Railway across its four divisions in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha have been earmarked for redevelopment under this scheme.
Bokaro Steel City station is one of the major stations in the Adra division of the South Eastern Railway. It serves the city of Bokaro and the adjacent area which is rich in mineral resources.
The station also serves a huge population and is well connected to important rail heads. It is surrounded by big industries like the Bokaro Steel plant, thermal power plants, cement factories etc.
Bokaro also has a freight loading yard. The city hosts tourist spots such as Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park, Garga Dam, Tenughat Dam, City Park etc.
The master plan for the redevelopment of Bokaro Steel City station has been proposed with an estimate of Rs 33.5 crores.
The new station building will be built in an iconic contemporary style and will be developed with segregated arrival and departure provisions with integration of both sides of the city.
The station plaza will include adequate parking facilities and multi-model integration enabling smooth traffic flows.
A spacious concourse with world-class facilities and passenger amenities will be constructed along with spaces for retail, cafeterias, recreational facilities, comfortable waiting areas, executive lounges, business meeting areas etc.
The station will be equipped with a better passenger information system, signage and digital displays for all kinds of travel-related information.
The station will have foot overbridges, lifts and escalators for the comfort of passengers.
The station will provide all kinds of ‘Divyang’ friendly facilities, free wi-fi and fire fighting arrangements.
