Jamshedpur, June 14: Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a truck and seized over half-a-dozen bovines from inside the vehicle on NH-33 under Baharagora thana area in the East Singhbhum district about 110 km away from here on Wednesday morning.

The bovines which include four cows were tied together in a most cruel manner and were being smuggled to Chichra in West Bengal from Jamda in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha through Baharagora.

During the operation, the police arrested the truck driver identified as Chittaranjan Samal who was the lone person in the bovines-laden vehicle.

The seized cows and bullocks were supposed to be sold in the bovines market in Chichra and meant finally to be slaughtered.

OC, Baharagora thana, Santan Kumar Tiwari said that the arrested driver did not open his mouth about the smuggler responsible for the smuggling of the bovines.

“The driver of the truck kept on claiming that he had loaded the cattle in the truck at Jamda to drive upto Chichra but was unaware about who is behind the smuggling. We have registered a case against the owner of the truck also and are trying to detect the smuggler, ” said Tiwari while talking to lagatar24.com.
