Ranchi, Nov 11: Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajiv Kumar today walked out of jail following his 103 days of judicial custody in the cash for PIL case. A few days back, the Jharkhand High Court had granted him bail in this case after he furnished bail bond of Rs One Lakh with two sureties of the like amount. Lodged at Birsa Munda Jail his family members left for jail to get him released from the jail.
“The family has suffered. He was falsely implicated in the extortion case by powerful persons as he was fighting important PILs. We are thankful to all such people who extended us support,” said one of the family members.
There was another case against Rajiv Kumar lodged under provisions of SC-ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. In this case also, he got bail.
Notably, the Kolkata police arrested Rajiv Kumar on July 31 along with Rs 50 lakh cash based on an FIR lodged by Amit Agrawal. The businessman alleged that Rajiv Kumar demanded Rs 10 crore not to drag his name in the shell company related to PIL 4290/21. He remained in a jail in Kolkata. He later on got the bail in this case from Kolkata High Court. In the meantime the ED also took up this case. The ED also booked Amit Agrawal as a prime accused and alleged that Amit Agrawal trapped Rajiv Kumar with sinister design to frustrate the PIL and to implicate judges and ED officials.
In its bail order, the court stated that Kolkata -based businessman and money laundering accused Amit Agrawal not only hatched a conspiracy against Rajiv Kumar but also against government officials as well as Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the judiciary.
“It prima facie suggests that Amit Kumar Agrawal has hatched the conspiracy not against the petitioner, but against the ED officials as well as Government officials and judiciary, which is a serious matter. It is expected that this allegation will be investigated by investigating agencies,” the court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi of Jharkhand High Court who granted bail to Rajiv Kumar in the cash for PIL has stated.
