Daltonganj, Feb 27: Satbarwa police in Palamu has dug out a bizarre case of cash withdrawal from a dead pensioner’s account.

Officer in charge of the Satbarwa police station Rishikesh Rai told lagatar24.com ,one Mani Bhuiyan of Kamaru village had a single name account with the Jharkhand Gramin bank Bakoriya branch.

The account was a single name account in respect of Mani Bhuiyan. Further this account of Mani Bhuiyan was a pension account. Interestingly, Mani Bhuiyan died 4 years ago but his monthly pension kept credited to his account till the last month.

He said this is itself a fraud in its own way as when a pension beneficiary dies his account is immediately closed and his name is struck off from the pensioner chart. The family of the deceased pensioner can withdraw the residue amount in the account only after proving legitimate relation with the deceased pensioner.

Here it was not done and the dead man Mani Bhuiyan remained a live pensioner all these 4 years getting pension digitally which is 1,000 rupees a month.

Every November month a pensioner is to submit his life certificate to the concerned bank from where he withdraws his pension. The life certificate is to be produced in person and in some cases where a pensioner is ill or away from the location where his bank is situated, can with the permission of the concerned bank send in his life certificate.

Here it is not known as to who used to submit the life certificate of the dead Mani Bhuiyan, said police officer Rai. It is strange as to how the banker did not bother to match the photo of the producer of the life certificate with the photo pasted on the pension pass book account. The deceased’s daughter told police her father’s pension pass book was stolen very recently.

It went into the hands of another person Dilip who belongs to another village Khamdeeh and although Dilip is also a Bhuiyan he is no relative of the deceased Mani. Dilip withdrew 10,000 rupees twice, one on February 18 and the other on February 21, said the police officer Rai. Dilip was caught in his third attempt. Dilip was caught and jailed on Friday, February 25.

Police officer Rai said we are looking for this identifier who conspired with Dilip to siphon off the money from the dead pensioner’s account. The case is challenging as there are many stakeholders like the family of the deceased pensioner, Dilip who withdrew money,  Jharkhand Gramin bank Bakoriya branch etc.
