Ranchi, Sept 2: The CBI has taken over investigation in the 2019 post office scam in Garhwa district of Jharkhand where accused Kameshwar Ram illegally withdrew Rs 2.10 crore from as many as 137 deposit accounts of the customers. Kameshwar Ram, currently under suspension, was the deputy postmaster at Ramna branch in Garhwa district.
The case has been assigned to the ACB unit of Ranchi branch of the CBI and the FIR registered against Kameshwar Ram besides Ashwini Kumar Thakur, Manjeet Kumar and Sanjay Kumar Gupta.
The FIR was originally lodged by Shankar Kujur, assistant postal superintendent at Ramna police station under section 467, 468, 469, 471, 420, 409 and 120 (B) of the IPC. Now the CBI has taken over the case following a recommendation of the Jharkhand government made in October last year. Now the CBI has lodged a fresh FIR and informed the competent CBI court in Ranchi on August 29. Suman Kumar Singh has been made the investigating officer of this case.
The CBI said that the crime was committed from April 3, 2019 till June 8, 2019. It is alleged that Kameshwar Ram in connivance with other accused tempered with ‘Sanchay Post Data’ and made changes in recurring deposit accounts. He also stole an RD ledger that contained information of recurring deposit accounts. He allegedly hired other accused in an illegal manner to commit fraud.
