Dhanbad, July 19: An expert team of the central government has appreciated the Dhanbad Master Plan 2030 project of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad.
The team under Ashok Sharma, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Steel in its two days visit to IIT ISM today took details of the project and lauded it. The project is aimed to facilitate decisions for future planning of land cover and thematic maps of the district.
The project of IIT ISM has been nominated for the national award for e-Governance after the first round of screening. The visit of the central government team would pave the way for selection in the next round.
The team first witnessed the PowerPoint presentation about the project during which representatives of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) AK Samanta, Executive Engineer Cornelius Murmu, Urban Infrastructure Specialist and Amandeep, Urban Reform Specialist were also present.
The team during their two-day stay also witnessed the different laboratories and research facilities of IIT (ISM) and later visited the mines of Dhanbad in order to have a first-hand account of the facilities in the institute and infrastructure facilities of Dhanbad.
Prof Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM) explained to the team the nitty-gritty of the project and said that the mapping of the subsidence-prone areas to be carried out under the master plan is quite crucial as it will help the city planners in a great way for the town planning as identification of subsidence prone zones have not been carried till date.
He further said that the database generated by the IIT (ISM) experts in the course of preparation of the Dhanbad Master Plan will be provided free of cost to Dhanbad Municipal Corporation with a pre-condition that it will be provided to all the stakeholders.
The master plan has been prepared by a four-member team under the leadership of Prof Vasanta Govind Kumar Villuri, Associate Professor of Mining Engineering.
Other members were Srinivas Pasupuleti, Associate Professor, Civil Engineering; Prof SR Sammader, Associate Professor, Environmental Science Engineering and Dr Satish Kumar.
