Jamshedpur, Oct 22: A young software engineer was allegedly gang raped near Chaibasa airstrip under Chaibasa mufassil thana area in West Singhbhum, about 70 km away from here.
About 10 miscreants allegedly raped the girl near the airstrip having forced her boyfriend to leave the spot on Thursday evening when the victim had gone there along with him for passing some quality time.
West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed the incident, though, a medical examination report of the victim is yet to come.
“Nine or 10 unidentified miscreants have raped the girl who had been to the isolated Chaibasa airstrip area along with her boyfriend. A case has been registered with the Chaibasa mufassil thana on the statement given by the victim. We have started an investigation and expect to arrest the culprits soon,” Shekhar said while talking to lagatar24.com.
The SP said that the condition of the victim is alright and that they have subjected the victim to a medical examination for confirmation of the gang rape.
A resident of Jhinkpani block in West Singhbhum, the victim stays at a rented house at Kumarhatu in Chaibasa which is also the headquarters of West Singhbhum district. The girl would do work-from-home from her Kumarhatu residence.
According to sources, the girl had ridden to the Chaibasa airstrip along with her boyfriend on a Scooty. Having parked the vehicle, the two were engrossed in talking near the airstrip during sunset when the miscreants reached there.
Sources said the thugs had first overpowered the victim’s boyfriend after assaulting him. Then they drove him away and then raped the girl one after another taking the advantage of the darkness. After committing the gang rape, the miscreants fled the scene.
Having suffered the barbaric act, the victim remained lying on the crime scene until her boyfriend returned to the spot and took her to the mufassil thana late in the night for lodging the FIR.
The OC of Mufassil thana said they have detained some of the suspects for interrogation, but no arrest has been made so far in connection to the gruesome crime.
