Chamoli, May 8: The doors of the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand were opened today for worshipers amid rituals and mantra chanting, with the sounds of an army band playing in the background. The Badrinath temple has been decked with flowers and lights for the opening ceremony, and substantial security has been deployed.
Badrinath Temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu and is located in the Garhwal hill tracks in Chamoli district, along the banks of the Alaknanda River. The shrine is one of the four ancient pilgrimage destinations known as the ‘Char Dham,’ together with Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. It is located in the Uttarakhand town of Badrinath. Every year, it is open for six months (between the end of April and the beginning of November).
On Friday morning, the Temple welcomed pilgrims. On the auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya, the annual Chardham Yatra began on May 3 with the opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in the Uttarkashi area. On May 8, the Badrinath Temple’s portals will open.
The state government reduced the number of pilgrims allowed to visit the Char Dhams earlier this month. Badrinath would be able to accommodate 15,000 pilgrims each day, Kedarnath 12,000, Gangotri 7,000, and Yamunotri 4,000. This agreement is for a period of 45 days. A negative COVID-19 test report or immunisation certificate is not required for pilgrims this year. Every year, lakhs of visitors and devotees flock to the Char Dhams from all over the country.
