Chatra, Dec 16: Chatra, one of the most backward districts of Jharkhand, is known for extremism besides poppy cultivation and is deprived of even basic health facilities. However, in the new year, Chatra Sadar hospital is set to get an MRI facility to solve the problem of patients who have to go to Ranchi to get tests done.
As per the information, the health department has given its approval to purchase this machine from the district mineral foundation trust (DMFT) fund.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the inside of the body. It may be used to help diagnose or monitor treatment for a variety of conditions within the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
At present, the patients are left with no other option but to go to Ranchi to get this test done. This results in extra financial burden due to travelling as well as wastage of three to four days.
In the meeting of the district-level health committee, this issue was raised and everyone agreed to have this facility in Chatra hospital. A proposal was made in this regard and sent to the health department. Finally, approval came to get this advance machine purchased from the DMFT fund.
Sources said a team from the health department has given its consent to install the machine in the new building which is at present near completion on the hospital campus. The agency involved with its construction has been asked to speed up the work and hand over the building by January 2023.
“Once the building’s handover procedure is complete, we will ensure the installation of the MRI machine,” the officials added.
Chatra Civil surgeon Shyam Nandan Singh confirmed getting approval to purchase the machine. “We will install this machine in the new building and so are waiting for its handover anytime in January,” he said.
