Chhattisgarh Assembly deputy Speaker Manoj Singh dies of heart attack

Raipur, Oct 16: Manoj Singh Mandavi, the deputy speaker of the Chhattisgarh assembly and a member of the party in power, passed away on Sunday after suffering a heart attack, according to party officials.

Sushil Anand Shukla, the head of the state Congress’s media arm, reported that Manoj Mandavi (58) passed away in the morning after being transported to a hospital in nearby Dhamtari town after having a heart attack.

On Saturday night, Manoj Mandavi, who previously represented the Kanker district’s Bhanupratappur constituency, was in his home hamlet of Nathia Nawagaon in the Charama neighbourhood.

He was transferred to a hospital in Charama after expressing unease, where doctors treated him, according to Shukla. Manoj Mandavi was subsequently taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Dhamtari, where he later passed away, according to the Congress politician.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel condoles the sudden demise of three-time Congress MLA and Deputy Speaker Manoj Singh Mandavi and calls it an “irreparable loss.”

Mandavi, a three-time MLA and a well-known tribal face of the party in the Bastar area, held the position of minister of state for homes and prisons from 2000 to 2003 under the Ajit Jogi-led Congress government in the state.
