Classes of first-year MBBS students begin in Jharkhand medical colleges

Dhanbad, Sept. 1: The classes for the first-year MBBS batch of 2023-24 began at all the medical colleges of the state today following the directive of the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Though the MBBS seats under the all-India and state quotas in all the medical colleges are still vacant, classes began with admitted students on September 1 as per the calendar issued by the NMC.

Incidentally, the first-day class of the first-year MBBS students today began in the absence of the principal and superintendent of the institutions as all of them have gone to attend a meeting with the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Health Arun Kumar Singh in Ranchi.

At Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad an orientation programme was organized for the students. In the absence of principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad and superintendent  Dr Anil  Kumar, anatomy HoD Prof (Dr) Makradhwaj Prasad and orthopaedics HoD Prof (Dr) DP Bhushan jointly presided over the programme.

SNMMCH professors hold an orientation program for first-year MBBS students

Admission in-charge  Dr Ganesh Kumar, pathology HoD Dr BC Banerjee, Dr Sunil Kumar Verma, HoD biochemistry, Dr Phani Bhushan, Dr Suchima  ( physiology), Dr RR Jha (PSM), Dr Leena Singh, Dr Rajkumar (warden) also addressed the students in the programme.

“First, we held introduction of the students and made them aware about rules and regulations of the institution, curriculum, foundation course and subjects of first year MBBS profession,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.

Dr Kumar said that all teachers and doctors who were present on the occasion informed the students about different factors they would go through in the course of study. “ We also made them aware that the campus is ragging free. so they attend classes as well as academic activities without any fear,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.

The induction classes of first-year MBBS professionals also began at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hazaribagh, Mednirai Medical College Hospital Palamu, Mahatma Gandhi  Memorial Medical College Hospital Jamshedpur and Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital Dumka.
